Hatching Schedule and Baby Chickens/Ducks

We hatch Chickens and Ducks here at Spring Creek Acres. In the early season (Feb/March) they are barnyard, as we feel it is unfair to the chickens to confine them to breeding pens when it is cold outside. Once spring starts we put them into mobile breeding pens. Each day a different group is let out to stretch their wings, but this allows the group to not be contaminated by a different pens rooster. For ducks we start hatching our Silver Appleyards as soon as the overnight temperature allows, the ducks lay their eggs before the sun comes up so the overnight temps have to be above freezing to let the duck eggs by viable.

If you don’t want to go through the effort of brooding your own chicks or want to make sure the girls are girls. We start the chicks for you. The chicks are raised to six weeks, at that point the roos and 100% identifiable and the chicks no longer need supplementary heat so when you buy them they can go directly outside into your flock or new coop!
